About Lauren

Embracing Healing for Your Path to Wellness

While the idea of therapy may seem overwhelming, what's even more overwhelming is having to deal with heavy emotions, anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, grief, pain, pre-marital and marital issues alone. I am here to remind you that you no longer have to do it on your own. In counseling, I encourage you to surrender, process, and heal all of your hurt. To truly open up in a counseling setting, you have to feel safe, connected and accepted in a non-judgemental environment. Accordingly, I provide you (and your family or partner) with the proper tools to help you heal and break free from unhealthy patterns and cycles in an unbiased environment.

My Passion and Expertise

I have a passion for counseling with couples, families, individuals and teens through a systemic lens. Working from a systemic perspective, I can more easily identify what systems (work, school, home life, marriage, etc.) are negatively affecting you. As a result, we can uncover unhealthy, ingrained family patterns and beliefs that may keep you emotionally reactive, anxious, and attached.

I am not afraid to sit you with your partner or entire family down whe it's appropriate for a better look at the dynamic at play. Many families and couples get nervous to come in because they fear being judged or exposed. However, coming in together is actually helpful. In that case, I can properly observe, intervene, challenge, and mediate in order to help you grow. Instead of turning away with resentment, pride, and shame, our goal is to help you turn toward each other with compassion, understanding, grace, and love.

Specialized Training: EMDR

I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) - a psychotherapy using bilateral stimulation to help clients process and become more desensitized to traumatic experiences, anxiety and PTSD. This therapy can be used for kids, teens and adults. You can read more about EMDR here.

My Educational Background

I hold a Master of Arts in Marriage, Family and Couples Counseling from Sam Houston State University. My main therapy approaches include Bowenian Family Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR).
