About Lauren
While the idea of therapy may seem overwhelming, what's even more overwhelming is having to deal with heavy emotions, anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, grief, pain, pre-marital and marital issues all on your own. I am here to remind you that you no longer have to do it alone and it is okay to surrender, process and heal all of your hurt. I believe wholeheartedly that in order to truly open up in a counseling setting, you have to feel safe, connected and accepted in a non-judgemental, unbiased environment and that is exactly what I provide.
I have a passion for working with couples, families, individuals and teens through a systemic lens. By counseling from a systemic perspective, I can more easily identify what systems (work, school, home life, marriage, etc.) are negatively affecting you while also uncovering unhealthy, ingrained family patterns and beliefs that may keep you emotionally reactive, anxious, and attached. I am not afraid to sit your entire family down or your spouse/partner when it's appropriate to get a better look at the dynamic at play. A lot of families and couples get nervous to come in because they are afraid of being judged or exposed, but it is actually more helpful so that I can properly observe, intervene, challenge and mediate in order to help you grow closer to one another with compassion, understanding, grace and love instead of turning away with resentment, pride and shame. I will help provide you (and your family or partner) with the proper tools to help you heal and break free from unhealthy patterns and cycles.
I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) which is a psychotherapy using bilateral stimulation to help clients process and become more desensitized to traumatic experiences, anxiety and PTSD. This therapy can be used for kids, teens and adults.
I hold a Master of Arts in Marriage, Family and Couples Counseling from Sam Houston State University. My main therapy approaches include Bowenian Family Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy.
