individual counseling for adults
You are the expert of your own life, and our job is to facilitate awareness as we dismantle mistaken beliefs you’ve developed, to empower you to gain control over your life, and to metaphorically hold your hand as we clean out your emotional wounds. While you may come in nervous, feeling afraid of being judged or saying too much, we've been on your side of the couch. We know how much courage it takes to even make that first appointment.
We work with the emotionally sticky. We don’t hand you a tissue when you’re crying. Yes, they’re accessible if you want one, but I will never suggest you “clean up” because we want you to feel it all – this is where growth happens You will never be shamed in our office. We bring zero judgment into the room – extending unconditional acceptance during our sessions. No matter what you come in to explore, we are all human. We work to understand you and your experiences from your unique cultural perspective.
During individual counseling sessions, we will use a variety of techniques and strategies to help you gain insight into your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Some of the modalities we like to use include:
- Traditional talk therapy or person-centered therapy
- Adlerian therapy
- Behavioral approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) or Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT)
- Mindfulness-based techniques
- Eye Movement Desensitization Therapy (EMDR)
- Sandtray Therapy and other expressive therapies
- Gestalt Therapy
- Bowenian Family Systems Therapy
- Attachment work
Individual counseling can be helpful for a wide range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, stress, relationship problems, trauma, and more. It can also be beneficial for people who want to improve their overall well-being, build self-esteem, or work through personal issues. We have counselors on our team that work with a variety of areas, including:
- Grief and loss
- Life transitions
- Eating disorders
- Autism and developmental issues
- Chronic pain
- College Students
Sessions sessions typically last for about 50 minutes and take place on a regular schedule, such as once a week. The frequency and length of sessions can vary depending on your needs and goals.
